URJA is the RWA wing of People’s Action. People's Action is a prominent political, social and economic advocacy group with the express intent of impacting governance at all levels within the state of Delhi and the National Capital Region [NCR] of Delhi. In 2005 Delhi government arbitrarily decided to hike the electricity tariff. At this point, there was an urgent need for residents of the city to take a joint stand against it. People’s Action took the initiative of confederating RWAs of Delhi and hence URJA was born. The group decided on a resolution to launch a civil disobedience movement and registered their first victory on September 01, 2005 when government buckled and withdrew the tariff hike.
